Our bears of comfort for sickle cell warriors and their families was formed after the transition of “My Beautiful.” Many warriors experience what I call “fear of the unknown” during those moments of crisis. Zannettie began to experience these moments towards the end of her fight. She chose to opt for Hospice to step in to assist with her care plan. Even throughout this process, she developed a close bond with the people who assisted our mother as caretakers. She requested a weighted bear for comfort because she felt that it would help to relieve anxiety and be therapeutic for her.

 

Her social worker promised to bring the bear during her next visit. This immediately brought a smile. Unfortunately, Zannettie transitioned the following morning. The “Bear of Comfort” was still given to us. I made sure that her comfort bear was placed in her arms. This brought us comfort knowing that she still received her bear. In return, the idea was formed to provide these same “Bears of Comfort” to warriors of all ages. We have shipped these beautiful comfort weighted and heated bears to warriors across the states.
